TAKING CARE OF YOUR SKIN...

Now I know what you’re thinking, “How can you be giving skin care advice?”. Well Mr hater, I know my skin isn’t the best but I have been dealing with pimples and acne for at least 5 years of my life and In that time I have discovered what is good for my skin and what is not. So I have come up with 4 helpful tips that I personally use and could help people dealing with pimples and acne.

  1. Drink plenty of water.
Drinking water helps your body in so many different ways. At least 60% or more of your body fluid is water so adding new fresh water to your body can flush out the old fluids that hold on to the toxins that build up in your body. Increasing your water intake can definitely make you look healthier and gives you a nice glow to your skin. It can also help with weight loss, drinking 2 glasses of water about half an hour before eating a meal can make you quite full which will result to you having smaller meals. I also read that it can decrease wrinkles and I know us girls want to look young forever.
Disclaimer: Drinking plenty of water throughout the day can end up with you visiting the loo more times than you expected.

  1. Remove Makeup & Moisturise
Now ladies, we all like to go out on the town and get all glammed up BUT I know at the end of the night when we stumble into our bedrooms all we want to do is go straight to sleep. NO!!!!!!! Our lovely faces need to be refreshed and clear of all the products we have on. Sleeping in your makeup is not a good idea, we are clogging up our pores and holding on to unwanted oils and bacteria. Makeup wipes don’t remove all of the dirt and products from your face which is why you should stick to your daily facial routines, even if you are very intoxicated.

Moisturising your skin is a wonderful thing. It smooths out your face if Its looking a bit rough or flaky. It also helps with that healthy looking glow that everyone is looking for. Hydrating your skin helps skin cells repair themselves quicker and this is a huge anti-aging benefit in the long run, which for us girls (and guys) is a massive advantage.
Another tip for washing your face, make sure you wash your hands before you go touching your face. There are all kinds of germs and bacteria on whatever you touch so just giving your hands a quick wash before applying products to your face is a big step to taking care of your skin.

  1. Exfoliate
Exfoliating your skin once or twice a week can really help with skin if you are having a few breakout problems. It gets rid of dead skin cells and flushes out those unwanted blackheads. Why not try exfoliating your body and feet too. If you’re planning on getting a cheeky spray tan, exfoliating beforehand will prevent patchiness and it will just make your body feel like a fresh, clean blank canvas.
From personal experience I wouldn’t take the words ‘face scrub’ too literally. Over exfoliating can cause irritation of the skin and make your face all puffy and flaky. Light pressure to your face using a flannel will do just fine or if you have an exfoliating face brush, follow the directions to make sure you’re looking after your face properly.

  1. Diet & Don't Stress
We all get a bit stressed out now and again. It’s a part of life and it’s what helps us all grow but sometimes we stress for no reason. I’ve noticed that when I’m stressed, I breakout a lot and my face gets way oilier than it already is. This is a big problem for me so I did a little research to see what was happening. I found that stress causes your body to produce cortisol and other hormones, which tells your sebaceous glands to produce more oil. I have oily skin anyway and because oily skin is more prone to produce acne, it just gets a bit too much for me.
Exercising can take your mind off any worries you have. Here is a list of a few things you could do to distress:
  • You don’t have to go to the gym, you can do a home work out (there are plenty of workout videos on Youtube you can follow).
  • Going for a walk or a jog. Could even take your dog, beneficial for the both of you.
  • Reading and listening to music. Blocking out the world and having a bit of you time is hardly illegal.
  • Getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep every night can really help with stress. Being tired at work or university isn't something we look forward to.

Your diet is a big part of taking care of your skin. Now I’m not going to lecture you about what you eat because I’m the last person who should be talking about diets. What I do know is that there is no harm in eating a bit of fruit and adding a few veggies to your meals. Less sugar and more fruit is something we are told day after day but do we listen? HELL NO! Quitting sweeties and chocolate is a really hard thing to do but treating ourselves once a week is not a problem. I guess it’s just a case of taking care of our bodies and knowing our limits.

Well that's it for today. Thank you for reading, I hope this was useful to some of you and if skincare is something you are interested in then I'd love to know what your routine is and what products you recommend.

Love ya x
